North American Bulk Transport, Inc. joined the Tankstar USA, Inc. family in 1987 as one of their first acquisitions. Originally named C.T. Hertzsch, Inc., the company was started as a joint venture by Mr. Hertzsch and the Louisville Cement Company located at Speed, Indiana in May of 1953. Their idea was to be able to provide a higher quality, more efficient delivery service for the cement company's customers. In 1957 C.T. Hertzsch was acquired by the Louisville Cement Company and was held and operated by them until Essroc Materials purchased the cement company in 1987, at which time we acquired the trucking company from them.

During the early years, the primary means of delivering cement in the area was in bags, which, at that time, were hand loaded and unloaded on a flat bed truck. A few years later the fleet grew to include the "new" enclosed mechanical unloading bulk trailers, or screw trailers as they were known. Then in 1958 we started to use the pneumatic tank trailer, which is essentially the same trailer used today.

In the years since the acquisition we have grown from a single terminal in Indiana, to locations in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Currently, we operate over 100 tractors and 200 trailers, 95% company owned, covering a 15 state area.

Although our primary focus is still in the cement industry, we have expanded our operations to include a wide range of dry bulk products, non-hazardous as well as hazardous chemicals. We also utilize many loading and unloading systems, such as pneumatic, flat, rail transfer and vacuum service.
